Employee Spotlight is our blog series that features the fantastic individuals behind RoadSync.
Get to know a face behind the scenes of our products, Deshani Gunathilake. She's one of our amazing product managers, who continues to innovate and create solutions for our products. We’re excited to share her story in this month’s Employee Spotlight. You’ll learn about her role and career in the logistics industry and even a sneak peek at an upcoming RoadSync product!
What is your role here at RoadSync, and what do you do on a day-to-day basis?
I’m a product manager, and I currently work on both our Checkout product and a new product that we’ll be launching soon. It’s my job to work with our leaders to build the product roadmap, define success, and work cross-functionally to execute it. As part of that, I work closely with an incredible design and engineering team to build new features and new products and to iterate on existing features in order to solve user problems and drive key outcomes.
How did you first learn about RoadSync? What drew you to RoadSync initially?
I’ve known about RoadSync for some time before joining the team. When I first moved to Atlanta, I was very interested in the city’s tech scene. I found out about RoadSync through local business journals and all sorts of startup magazines that highlight Atlanta’s young up-and-coming startups. RoadSync has always been in my peripheral vision, so when a role opened up in the product team, I jumped at the opportunity.
How do you define success?
I see success as solving user problems in a collaborative way with my team. I want to drive and achieve the outcomes and goals we set for ourselves in a productive and equitable way.
How has your work experience differed in a pandemic?
Starting a new job during the pandemic presented its challenges, such as learning to fit into a team remotely with little to no in-person contact. However, the incredible people at RoadSync made it easy for me to feel like I belong here. The tools used company-wide, such as Slack, Zoom, and Notion, helps keep us all connected and on the same page.
If you could switch departments for one day, which would you choose and why?
I would have to go with sales or marketing. I would choose sales because I’d like to see what aspects truly sell RoadSync Checkout. I would choose marketing because I’d like to see what messaging and other tactics draw people to our products.
What are your hopes for our industry?
In the foreseeable future, I believe we’re going to see many old processes in the industry start to become more automated through technology. As a result, technology will play an increasingly critical role in the industry, and I think that RoadSync is at the forefront of it. We are trying to offer the logistics industry solutions that are specifically designed for them. My goal is to help a lot more people in this space embrace technology.
