Employee Spotlight is our blog series that features the fantastic individuals behind RoadSync.
If you’re a current customer of RoadSync, then it is likely you’ve spent quality time on the phone or zoom with Nick Popov, one of our Customer Success Managers. And that’s precisely why we’re excited that we got to (virtually) sit down with him to share his story in this month’s Employee Spotlight. You’ll learn about his role and career in the logistics industry, even what he enjoys outside of work!
Your experience in the logistics industry started long before RoadSync. Tell us more about life before RoadSync in the industry!
It started in 2007, the economy was going through a transition, and there were many opportunities around. Initially, I was brand new to the logistics industry, but I very quickly learned how critical it is to the daily lives of ordinary people just like us. Everything we consume daily, from food to everyday goods, is so dependent on the logistics industry. I got started in the industry through the fleet management/ fleet card issuing business with Fleet Cor, which grew into the largest fleet card processor in the United States.
I knew some people at RoadSync, but the startup environment is what drew me to the company. I wanted to join an organization where I can impact and contribute proportionally to the organization's size. Also, I was very attracted to learning how startups are made and grow. We had less than 15 people across the whole company when I joined in 2017, and now we're at 75 and still continuing to expand with new roles being posted regularly." It's exciting to see that acceleration. Starting a business from nothing and making that business succeed against all odds is a rare occurrence. The company's potential is not only because of the range of solutions we offer but because of the people at RoadSync and the people leading RoadSync. We have an outstanding leadership team, starting with our CEO Robin Gregg, who has constant great ideas and the natural ability to grow RoadSync.
I started on the sales side of the business. We needed to test a new product, so I was on the phone with different companies learning their needs. We began to gain some customers, and it was great! As we started to scale up, we needed help on the customer success side of the business. So, I moved to that side of the company as the Customer Success Manager. I work closely with the sales and operations teams, assisting in critical activities, including onboarding new customers and identifying opportunities for enhancing our operations for enhancing our customers' experience. Consider me a jack of all trades.
Since COVID started, I have become an avid gym-goer. Every day during my lunch break, I'm at the gym working out. I love it! I had no idea how nice it is to work out. Also, I love to cook, and I want to say I'm a good home chef. I like to cook everything, but Asian Marinated Grilled Skirt Steak is one of my favorite dishes to cook. It is exquisite! I've also spent a few of my weekends dabbling in baking bread from scratch! The tastiest bread I have made was Sourdough bread. Also, I like to sail sailboats.
It had to be this past weekend. I'm a lousy golfer, but I went to play with some friends. I had some pretty bad shots, and we're just making jokes after jokes which cracked everyone up. It was a really good time!
In 2021, I am most excited to see our company double in revenue and active customers. First, I'm excited about our new products, we have a lot on the way! Additionally, I am also looking forward to the new partnerships that we have planned within the industry!
